Vocational Training for Job Creation in Renewable Energy

Vocational Training for Job Creation in the Renewable Energy Value Chain in Uganda: Employment for the youth

This project is implemented by the Renewable Energy Business Incubator (REBi) Limited. The project has two key priority areas;

  1. Skills development through technical and vocational training in order to equip youth and young adults with relevant skills demanded by the labour market. Upon completion of the vocational courses, students are attached to renewable energy companies for industrial training to acquire hands-on skills and experience. This exposure to the world of work is expected to increase their employability.
  2. Enterprise development is promoted through a business incubation model which nurtures young and start-up enterprises to grow into sustainable businesses. Our target group are youth, these establish businesses and create employment opportunities for youth and others in the renewable energy value chain. Major business incubation activities include; support and guidance during idea development, market and feasibility studies, company registration, business and technical trainings, business plan development, product development, testing and further product improvement, mentoring and coaching, linkage to relevant networks to mention. The project supports enterprises engaged in various RE technologies such as hydropower, solar, bio-energy and wind. This is increasing production and provision of clean energy products and services in Uganda. Increased clean energy access discourages the use of traditional biomass such as firewood and charcoal.
